v1013: The Steam Next Fest Update (June 15, 2026)

This is the largest update, and it brought the demo closer to the full game. Dev Blog #9 says the goal was for the cooking part of the demo to feel more like the final game.

New features

  • Food spoilage. Food can spoil over time, one item at a time, usually after about 20 minutes. Food Baskets keep food fresh for at least an hour. All food, all raw items and some cooking ingredients can spoil, while herbs and some dry ingredients do not.
  • Combat improvements. The update added camera shake when you hit or are hit, improved skeleton hit animations, and made ongoing attacks interruptible. The stamina bar was also rebalanced.
  • Carcass harvesting. Bats and scorpions can now be harvested after they die, and they no longer drop food directly. Bat and Scorpion Carcass recipes were added to the Cooking Table, and Scorpion Tail became a cooking pot recipe.
  • Rotisserie burning. Food on the Rotisserie now burns if you leave it too long, with fixed effects and sounds for "ready" and "burning". Dev Blog #9 adds that vegetables left over the campfire can burn into charcoal.
  • Controller support, with real-time detection of your current input device.
  • Save system. You can save and load the demo (announced in Dev Blog #9). Demo saves do not carry over to the full game.

Important changes

  • Players can rejoin a lobby, and the game shows proper error messages when it fails to find or create a game.
  • When an object accepts several kinds of input, interactions now use the item in your hand first.
  • The Low graphics quality option was removed; Medium and High remain.
  • The Key Binding screen now switches between controller and keyboard in real time.

Notable fixes

Settings now save correctly between launches, and the brightness and gamma slider works. Audio device selection works in-game. Left Click can be rebound, and Escape can no longer be unbound, which used to lock players out of settings. Draining the water in the main hall can no longer push players out of bounds. Deconstructing a nail now returns its crafting material.

v0271: Languages and Fixes (March 30, 2026)

The second update added seven new languages: Chinese, Polish, Japanese, Spanish, Spanish (Mexican), French and Russian. Your selected language is now saved between sessions. Other fixes include:

  • Crafting ingredients can no longer be shielded from use by holding them on the mouse cursor.
  • Players can no longer get trapped when a Stool they are sitting on is deconstructed.
  • Torches picked up from the ground no longer show random negative durability.
  • The co-op player list no longer shows empty for Player 2.
  • Colliders were fixed for Meat Soup, Rock Soup and Stew, three of the dishes you can make.

v0254: First Update (March 4, 2026)

The first update added a graphics quality setting. Its Low option turned off dynamic shadows and post-processing for weaker hardware; a later update removed Low again. Mouse-button icons appeared in the interface, laying the groundwork for controller icons. The update also trimmed demo content to keep some discoveries for the full game:

  • The cave with Azurea mushrooms was removed, along with its coal piles, cilantro, bats and cuica.
  • The mushroom drawings in First Camp were removed.
  • The inside of the Jaguar Door and the Magic Silver Dagger were removed.

It also fixed many exploits and soft-locks. Item duplication was closed off. Sitting on a Stool no longer lets you see through closed doors, and the Sleeping Bag no longer lets you bypass grates. Players can no longer get stuck on a Goo pile in the Sewers, and skeletons near the Paw key doors can now hit players standing on the edge.

What This Means for the Full Game

The patch history shows how the team reacts to feedback, which is a good sign for post-launch support. In the October 1, 2026 pre-launch post, the developers said many small quality-of-life improvements from demo feedback will be in the launch version. Expect the October 13 build to differ from v1013 in places. We will add launch patch notes in the release section once they are published.
